The History of Economics Society recognizes individuals who performed outstanding service contributions to HES and the broader history of economics community with a Distinguished Service Award.

The service to be recognized may comprise a variety of activities that reflect outstanding dedication, leadership, and lasting contributions to the institutions that support our community, by a candidate with past or present significant ties to HES. Given that the Distinguished Fellow Award recognizes exemplary contributions to the success of the Society, the nomination of a former Distinguished Fellow for the Distinguished Service Award should make a strong case for exceptional treatment.

Nominations for this award are received at any time but will be reviewed by the HES Executive Committee in its January meeting. Award winners will be announced during the annual HES conference. The nomination package should include a recent CV of the nominee, a nomination letter summarizing the candidate’s achievements, and at least two letters from other scholars who support the nomination. To be included in the agenda of the January meeting, the nomination package should be submitted to the HES Secretary (secretary@historyofeconomics.org) no later than December 1st.

No more than one prize will be awarded each year. Recipients will be offered a plaque celebrating this achievement and will have their travel expenses covered up to $1,000 to attend the presentation ceremony during the HES annual conference. They will also receive a lifetime honorary membership of the Society, with online only access to JHET.
