Welcome to the 52nd Annual Meeting of the

History of Economics Society

The Annual Conference of the History of Economics Society is one of the most important international gatherings of historians of economics. The conference provides an opportunity to meet with friends and colleagues, to learn about new research in the field, and to talk with journal and book editors and bloggers.

We are hosting our welcome reception at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond on the evening of Friday, June 27. Our 52nd Annual Meeting will take place June 28-30 at the University of Richmond, Virginia.

Editors, publishers, and organizations purchasing exhibit space at the History of Economics Society Conference should log in to your profile, then add your exhibit table to your cart. Each table includes up to (2) representative attendees. For Exhibitors who wish to ship display items to the conference site only (no staff), we will set up your display for you, but cannot return-ship items after the conference. We will host a book give-away on the final day of the conference.

Conference program advertisements are black and white full-page (8.5 x 11) with one-inch margins and will be included in both the printed and digital programs. Please send advertisement files (.pdf or word) to office@historyofeconomics.org by: May 9, 2025.

All sessions will be hosted at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. 

Registration Information

Conference registration is for HES members only. Please visit our membership page to view the available options. 

If you are new to the HES, please create a user profile on our website first by filling in your information here and following the steps.

If you are a registered website user, log in to your account and purchase or renew your membership if necessary. The early registration discount ends on April 15, 2025.

Besides the conference registration, you can choose to purchase additional social event tickets to include in your cart before checking out: opening reception and conference banquet.

As it is the case with HES memberships, secure online payments are processed by PayPal. For the majority of countries, you do not need to have a PayPal account to make a payment with a credit or debit card. If you are unable to make a PayPal payment please email office@historyofeconomics.org for assistance.

All prices are in US dollars.

Conference Lodging

The Society has secured preferential rates with two hotels, The Westin Richmond and Embassy Suites by Hilton Richmond. Embassy Suites rooms will be available for conference participants for $179 (standard king) and $199 (double queen) per night/breakfast and early evening happy hour included. Westin Richmond rooms will be available for $159 per night. A free shuttle service will be provided to transport participants between the hotels and the main conference site. More information and a link to make a reservation will be posted soon.

Opening Reception, Friday, June 27, 2025

The Opening Reception will be hosted at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Due to security screening requirements, all tickets must be purchased by June 13, 2025.

Each person will need to bring a government issued ID (US driver’s license or passport) to show as they enter the building. Attendees will then go through a screening process, much like the airport, where they’ll be asked to empty pockets and put any bags through the x-ray machine and then walk through a metal detector. No weapons, including pocket knives with blades longer than 2.5 inches are allowed. Please note that there will be no security exceptions made for any reason whatsoever. If someone forgets their ID or passport they will not be admitted.

The Awards Banquet will be held at the Jepson Alumni Center, and includes one plated entree per person. Please purchase a ticket for the entree option you prefer from the list below. Due to catering cut-off dates, ticket sales will end on June 13, 2025.
